Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

How many people are unhappy about working in the office full time?

I’m curious. Sometimes I feel like it’s just me and a few other people that are not happy about working in the office everyday. Others seem to be working at their desks perfectly enthusiastically with no issue. Anyone else feeling desperate to hurry up and get out of here already? Do your peers feel the same way? Wish I knew what percentage of employees are unhappy right now.

Ok, my leader just communicated to me that I don't have to come in to the office either, but to be quiet about it. From what I understand, leadership is not pushing this now as they know it's impossible to enforce and may end up being counterproductive as people will leave for a company where they can work from home. Anyone else hear anything similar?

Considering I was NEVER 100% in the office since after about the first month of my employment, over a decade ago, THAT is how I handled it. I was hired to be (at best) hybrid. In fact I was speaking to my hiring manager a few weeks ago and he agreed--he didn't hire me to be in the office. And my other 2 managers since then say the same thing.

CSG does not have competitive compensation, so why would people who can afford to live near the office work for CSG? So yes, people have longer commutes. I bet only 5% of people have short commutes. The rest slough through traffic on zoom calls, then sit in the office on zoom calls while their colleagues sitting across the open office space join the same zoom call, adding to the grand open office zoom meeting. At least on zoom, you don’t have to run around finding a non soundproof room and don’t need to waste time on small talk and complaining about the common misery of being there or joking about when the CEO will be replaced (we all know he’s universally hated, even by the person paid to write positive replies here) because I just want to get through the day and get some work done. All the time wasted in the office is absolutely wasteful and miserable for those that still have pride in their work.

Mr Well Run Company CEO apparently doesn’t know how to use technology if sitting in the office is the only way he knows how to command people. I wonder when he will demand we all fly to the nearest 2 offices to work because he does it all the time and it works so well for him and the company. I think the ELT and the small entourage that follow the emperor around must swipe their badges in front of him as a show of respect before they bow down for his swipe and entrance. Showing up, being seen and swiping your badge are the true markers of productivity. I remember those days pre-covid when I drove to the office and swiped by badge so productively too.

The well run company CEO’s can also kiss my áss when it comes to RTO. When your job is fix this bug, implement this feature on old software - not exactly a specialized role - we don’t need to show up in the office to add value nor to be more productive. Once a month is more than enough to meet face to face thank you very much.

How did any of you function before the pandemic when you were driving into the office? How were you productive then with your commute?

I am not buying the 8-10 hours of commute- are you really driving 1 hour each way? I would bet that less than 5% of people have an hour commute each way in Ft. Lauderdale or Santa Clara, and less than 2% in Raleigh, the three top locations in the US.

Lets get real people- yes, there are some of you on zoom calls with other groups. But, you are most likely working with your peers in your office a majority of the time.

Every company has so much evidence that apart from those that have very specialized roles, the office environment adds more value and creates productive results compared to working from home with all of its distractions.

I have no love for TK- I think he is the henchman for the PE and is massively milking the, what-was mis-managed by the prior ELT and weak leaders like Sridhar and Hector, Citrix to leave a carcass out of it.

But on RTO, he is no different than any well-run company CEO that is looking at human productivity and realizing that zoom/teams are no substitute for working side-by-side.

It completely sucks when you are in zoom calls with everyone around you yapping about nothing. There are not enough privacy rooms to have meetings and constantly get feedback on calls of loud background "noise". RTO is especially stupid when I am the only 1 on my team in FTL, everyone else is remote scattered across the US.

Open-plan office space is a terrible environment for anyone that must read and think. Too many distractions from people who have nothing better to do than talk, talk, talk...

Only ones that like it are the ones yacking all day (and not about work related tasks). Yack, yack, yack all day. Amazing how much I learn about peoples' personal lives since everything that's said is overheard by half the open work area. Isn't the total lack of privacy and constant distraction great? Brilliant setup, CSG!

If they’re happy, it’s probably for some reasons unbeknownst to you, but definitely not because they enjoy working here. I like being paid to do nothing all day and leaving early. It means more free time when I’m at home. I even see others spend all day hiding away watching tv. If I did that, I would free up all the home tv watching needs so I can do other things.

Anyone I've talked to there thinks it's stupid to have to be working in the office every day. Discussions about it usually include comparing how many hours a week are wasted commuting that used be used for working. This is typically on the order of 8-10 hours per week wasted. That's a full day of work lost per week, or about a full week of work lost per month. About 10 other complaints about RTO are usually discussed. I won't list them here. You already know all the many downsides of RTO. So no, you're not alone. Everyone hates it, and if they seem enthusiastic there, it's only because they're stuck there for no good reason (and in a cr-ppy open office layout) and just resigned to being forced to do something d-mb.

Literally everyone. Nobody is working “enthusiastically” as you put it.
