Thread regarding VMware layoffs

vmware and its current traumatic impact on careers

The impending acquisition of VMware has revealed significant challenges that the company faces, resulting in a slowdown across several business units and a decline in productivity. The analysis suggests that the primary hindrances to productivity are the actions of managers, particularly first and second-line managers, who are obstructing progress and creating a toxic and vengeful work culture.

To tackle these challenges, strong leadership and a positive organizational culture are vital. Organizations must prioritize effective communication, employee development programs, and external expertise to identify and address underlying issues that contribute to an adverse work environment.

Supporting and listening to employees is crucial as the current toxic and retaliatory cultures can have grave long-term consequences for organizations. It is imperative to take proactive steps to address these issues and ensure a positive work environment, emerging stronger from this challenging phase.

The current dearth of leadership is a grave concern, as first-line managers are deliberately misguiding and withholding information from individual contributors. Effective leadership is essential in making employees feel valued, supported, and heard, and establishing clear communication channels to foster a culture of collaboration and trust. Unfortunately, this is no longer feasible with most of the current first-line and middle managers.

Managers must prioritize transparency and open communication channels to prevent confusion, misunderstandings, and incorrect assumptions that adversely affect the quality and efficiency of work produced. Organizations must equip managers and individual contributors alike with the requisite tools, training, and resources to fulfill their roles effectively and responsibly.

In conclusion, prioritizing leadership development for individual contributors and not just managers, transparent communication with individual contributors involved, and a culture of collaboration and trust is crucial for organizations to succeed. By investing in employees and promoting a healthy work environment, organizations can enhance employee morale, productivity, and overall success.

I'm a manager in VMW and none of that is true

Maybe in your corner of the 30K people company, and good for you. However, these issues do exist. Be receptive and listen to colleagues. Not everything that isn’t in your direct experience is a conspiracy or a lie.

This is not chatGPT. They are several programs that detect the chatGPT such as:

This a genius article. I read 3 times so far. Very true. Wish Hank will read it or someone send it to him.

The current PEP "program" in Business Operations just furthers the fact that these leaders don't give a cr-p about anyone. Instead of a normal merit process in Biz Ops, thet have decided no raises or promos but a small retention bonus OR RSU grant ... and then sent an email with a positive spin about how great it is and how much they care so this is what they are doing in lieu of PEP cycle. It's getting harder and harder to work every day.

It’s either Patrick Bateman of American Psycho infamy, or ChatGPT.

Came here for the Chat-GPT comment. VMWare has built a tire fire in a dumpster that nobody wants to pay for anymore. Ask your customers…forget the employees. Your demise is trying to fool the IT community you were more than a one trick pony with a hypervisor.
