Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Its furlough time for CW's again

Yes it is that time of the year when us CW's get either a few weeks off or a month.

This time it is not across the board like last year but according to what team you are working with. That being said, you might be on furlough or not.

CW's will know by the end of May if they are on furlough or not.

No mention of layoff, just a temporary suspension in service.

I left HP due to the furlough policy. I was fortunate to find work with a much more stable company with a huge increase in salary and no furloughs. The furlough policy is harmful in that it causes unnecessary turnover and causes the highest skilled contractors to always leave first. It creates a skill vacuum which puts a lot of stress on managers and the remaining dev team who are required to absorb the extra work.
You would think that HP upper management would learn from their mistakes but they seem to be clueless. Their “money-saving” furloughs are costing them money.

I left HP due to the furloughs last year. I have bills to pay. A lot of my coworkers left before I did. The good news is that I found a great job with a growing company and received a huge pay increase. Life is much better without HP.

I can't believe I survived the furlough choosing this year. Last year I had to take off 6 weeks unpaid. This year nothing. Others in the agency have to take furloughs (a few weeks here and there) for the last 2 quarters of HP's fiscal year.
