Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Yes, layoffs are going to happen

How in the world are there still people who think there'll be no layoffs? Can I have some of whatever it is you're smoking?

Collect all those note pads pens printing papers for rest of the year before you leave on Thursday. May be few cans of soda too.

@1qbo it takes more guts to announce layoffs in advance than to abruptly cut off access. More time allows employees to prepare for potential layoff. Why do you care if productivity has decreased for a short time? The company knows how to and will recover from the downturn. Any extra time to prep resume and send it out is beneficial especially in this market. Anyone who leaves will decrease the chances of another being laid off. And no, it's not always the best and brightest that leave...

@nud+1mywEJCt Well said. Other companies moved swiftly and announced layoffs in conjunction with their earnings report. While it sucks for those who were axed, the remaining employees would have breathed a sigh of relief and continued with their jobs. Our great leadership team has now managed to keep tens of thousands of people in limbo with no clear direction. Most people I know are barely getting any work done. Utterly incompetent.

The email by the CEO was meant for dummies! To give the dummies hope that no layoffs are going to happen! It looks like the email is working!

Because the email sent by CEO is just a word salad.

Looking at the amount of information in email sent by CEO shows the competency of our collectivr leadership .

That email has absolutely no useful information.

The era of cheap and free money is gone
This experiment ended badly with real inflation on the ground to 20 percent or so
Don't believe government inflation metric

With high interest rates and quantitative tightening which is happening right now all asset classes need to be reprices.

Wed be back to highs again if govt starts sending checks again
Ratea fall or if everyone becomes millionaire.

Fed may cut rates again but it won't be again good circumstances

@hsr I think the point was that other tech giants dropped as well similar or more than Q, so stocks are not a gr8 measure. Bigger question is, are the stock prices of the other semis (that are doing well) because they gained market share from those that are failing, or just that their customers are doing well in which case they don't get any credit for stock increase.

@soa yeah stay happy lol keep dreaming.@rnz GOOG dropped the same 40%, so same as qcom.and they have even recovered better than qcom. Why meta is relevant here? look at other semis, look at MSI , how much they dropped? i think you need to take a look at prices first before talking.

@tsg looks like some basic explanations are needed.
First, have you also looked at how much meta and goog dropped (before they recovered?)
Q is b2b. If Q's customers had huge demands in the pandemic fuelled bubble, it doesn't make sense Q to say - hey we will have a downturn in a year so we will fulfil fewer demands and our stock would rise less and drop less later and avoid potentially 50% or more drop. In that case, the business would just move elsewhere. The money printing has dried up, inflation is high. A year from now we should be back to normal and you will lament and whine why you didn't buy Q stocks at this time with those you sold in the high 100's

@tsg There are stocks down by more than 50% which doesn't pay dividends even. Stay happy. Qcom is rewarding better to its employees so opex is high and that reflected in the stock price,( given on the macroeconomic conditions).

Don't know if any layoff will happen or not, and I do not care, but it requires a very certain form of incompetent CEO to bring qcom stock down from 190 to 105 (40% loss). And dont give me MacroEconomy condition excuse, if it is about macro economy other semis should have behaved the same, take a look at Intel, AMD, MSI, NVDA and the rest, they all started to go up since OCT. QCOM? 0% gain lol.
