Let's be honest here. Dell married up with EMC acquisition.

Amen! Instead of adopting, the successful EMC practices, they ba----dized the EMC reputation with the cr-ppy Dell way of doing things. Michael Dell is a liar. He promised that he wouldn’t change the EMC model as it is the gold standard. First thing the Dell people did was burn it all down.
Bring back the days of EMC vSpecialists. A team of tech savy pre sales ninjas focused on creating customer solutions and outcomes. VCE also had some rockstar sales teams.. majority left because of the change to “sell everything” strategy. Surprised Scannell is still leading sales as it’s just boxes and volumes seem to be the name of the game in sales these days.
Maybe time for MD to pull trigger and break up the company, selling off the enterprise hardware and services to Microsoft and stick to what Dell knows best.. laptops, desktops and widgets.
Really you have to define what you mean by better. If you mean long-term relationship building for continuous year over year sales, Dell smoked EMC in that arena. If you mean the high pressure, get a deal and get it done get it closed EMC is better. What I don’t see is any trade in EMC personnel Related to long-term relationships with the customer and support.
Dell had $22bln debt at the time of starting EMC acquisition which had $8bln cash and $50bln market valuation. Had vmware and super-micro agreements to go after what is known today HCI market ( vxpecs-blue etc).
Only thing that happen to EMC is that ... founder of the company died - and Joe T. was under pressure from shareholder activist to spin off VMware.
For few years EMC was looking for a buyer - as simply they didn't want to build new market and were looking all for fat paychecks ... so Dell came around and seeing chance to recover it's PC business with enterprise company in a mix - we have current situation.
EMC at the time of purchase was very profitable company - similar story to VMware today. Had multiple business lines ( Documentum anyone ? RSA ? Authentica ? SMARTs ? vmware , datadomain , storage , HCI ) and would have done just great however mgmt wanted to close the books .. sad story of greed.
Michael hasn't done it for love - it was a way to get out of 20bn hanging over his company head ( but not his as it was silverlake money) and he did well ... getting away with 21bn in cache once VMware - Broadcom closes.
So where is DELL - well , some magic way dell inherited debt that MD got as a cache .. Dell had Vmware shares that somewhat magically got into MD hands .
But after all it's still decent company - there is many worst places to work - see Twitter
This statement and sentiment shows the Dell did a horrible job integrating EMC. There’s still too much us/them mentality on both sides.
EMC sales people are a joke. Absent, insecure and not technical.
Not true. Papa Jeff does love me
Never love a corporation. It won't love you back.
Wow. Productive post. Well done. Very helpful in trying to share information about layoffs and other key topics on an anonymous employee forum.
And Prince Harry was a perfect gentlemen (without flaw) who was bewitched by Megan Markle.
Dell was way over heads buying EMC. The Golden Goose/VMware sold for desperately needed cash. Dell should sell off EMC storage as they have no management skills in enterprise. Dell better off continue pedaling there PC hardware.
100% no question about it
