Thread regarding BD (Becton Dickinson & Co.) layoffs

Any info on BD pseudo layoff, rebadging BD employees as contractors?

Any info on BD pseudo-layoff, rebadging BD employees as contractors? Does anyone know how many BD associates were given the option to either transition to contractor status (contingent worker) or resign?

In 2018 BD did this for Facilities management. Almost the entire facilities group was caught up in it, even employees with 25+ years at BD. Honestly, I was caught up in the facilities transition and it has its pros and cons. At our site, my guys and I are now treated like contractors instead of former employees. I had 11 years and one of my other guys had 18 years. BD also did this with most of IT which has caused major issues at multiple sites with support. Outsourcing to India and the significant language barrier at times just leave employees frustrated. I suspect the BD model was to save money but I don't see how it is happening because ultimately they pay us to be there.

Typically BD is on a "hiring freeze" and contractors are rarely brought on board. Your best bet is get a job offer full time else where and use it to get hired on. Otherwise they will just renew your contract until it hits the max time frame and you get a few weeks notice you will not be hired and your contract cut. Even better, take the other job offer :)
