Imagine working at a company having management that says there is a need to spend millions of dollars to switch technology A to technology B because recent grads already know technology B -- as if there is no other training time / cost involved in bring new hires into the company -- and sufficient training for technology A should take about one hour.

Have you noticed how new grads are usually not really new college grads? Usually, experienced, late 20s-30s from one specific country, doing a masters to carve a path to h1b and with 5-10 years of experience.
They interview better and are often hired instead of a true local new college grad.
Of course they are more entitled and with less energy to be excited about anything. It’s not like this is a start of corporate life. Rather it’s just a quicker option to get a h1b
The grad program was a major failure. The hires didn't stay long. Was generally self entitled, and in a lot of cases lazy and ineffectual. They wanted higher pay without the hard work and achievements. Thankfully it taught me to steer clear of hiring new grads.

You mean like a team of C++ zealots claiming that they need to be on the bleeding edge of the C++ standard because it will help recruiting of college grads.
But the entitled group will not learn tech A. Others have to adapt and be flexible
Then the entitled group becomes unemployed.
At least that's how competent management runs companies.
But, many companies now are run by people barely competent enough to continue breathing autonomously and they don't know how to do their job effectively.

Recent grads are part of an entitled group. They deserve everything they demand and will not work if the company doesn’t comply. Vmw has no choice. Older folks will quickly adapt and learn tech B. But the entitled group will not learn tech A. Others have to adapt and be flexible

The really, really, really conincidental (no really, it's just a coincidence!) thing is that Technology B is their favorite. And despite it's massive shortcomings in the arena it needs to work, they push until they get their pet technology with complete disregard to the degradation it will cause.
