What? There is a job posting on the Union Pacific website for high school interns in North Platte starting at $15.00 an hour. Are we getting this desperate? I thought North Platte was this big railroad town, and that everyone wanted to work there? Guess not.

I like trains, and am high school. Why don’t they have vo-tech for the railroad ? Is this a good place to work without college ? Thank you.
The interns used to be college students not high school students.
&nti, you have sure seen a lot, lol. I think you either are prone to excessive exaggeration or you are a liar……either way I don’t believe anything you posted.
Managers at LATC, try and get us to switch the whole place, when we come in as a hauler and they have a assigned switch crew and they are at bean's eating. We traveled 56 long miles.
A couple weeks ago we heard about high school kids working in the diesel shop. Not sure of their job duties.
I wouldnt trust management to not exploit a high school kid. These managers never admit that we need more people but the instance they come in the proximity of someone w/ a pulse they immediately pounce upon them and start giving them tasks to do. Ive seen managers try to get people from other crafts to do work their departments work, Ive seen managers try to get mail men or ups men to move stuff (once it was office furniture) around for them, seen managers try to order local city police to pick up trash and track material, seen managers try to get landscaping “contractors” to pause from landscaping and help at a derailment. But again, it is never admitted that we are drastically understaffed.
They have hired interns for the past 30 years….nothing new.
Nothing new, maybe you just noticed it for the first time.
