How many people will be laid off in Poland? We have like 1300 workers now I guess? What do you think?

Needing a global organization that will collaborate during regular times (whatever that is) is hard enough. But when your getting beat up by the competition and trying to recover from the pandemic at the same time is near impossible. Teamwork is needed now but not confident the current leadership has that capability to pull it off (maybe they do not care and worried about their own skin). Best of Luck to all of us..

The unfortunate reality is that when a company offshores then they often create a "them vs us" situation where employees in different locations compete against each other for the same jobs. Getting employees to collaborate while they compete is really an impossible proposition. As more and more percentage get offshored then it gets worse and worse. The only way offshoring can work is by preventing the competition by not offshoring the same jobs that remain onshore. It's 20 years too late at Sabre for that now and management has made their plans to offshore almost all jobs very clear. Unfortunately those plans promote infighting and prevent collaboration. It is a recipe for dysfunction.

Ok, it is not bad (it is even classified as High Income Country by World Bank), but GDP per capita in purchase power in Poland is half of US. And, Poland is still considered rather as Emerging country than Developed on.

Moreover, tech workers salaries in the USA are huge even compared to western Europe.

@1uno+1mu1yDQM I wouldn't say European countries and Poland are poor. is just the cost of living is lower... An average polish worker in IT company, can own his flat/home , land , have investments and save over 1000 $ a month. Yes, is cheaper for companies to employee in Poland mainly for tax reasons, but you can't call poor a country with GDP nearly 1 trillion for 40 mil population. You can't compare Poland with US. You need to compare Poland with a US state, or US with whole European Union. And yes, europeans fight for their rights..

This is quite normal that a company is looking for cheaper workers. It is helping emerging countries a lot. So for these countries, it is good, even though they pay them significantly less. But the real problem is for people/employees in the US that they have worse employee protection from the law than these poorer countries.

And beside this, as an example, the USA is like "China is bad, we need to punish China", but US businesses invest money in China as always. Americans hate China but love Chinese dollars.

Learning from European countries could be beneficial, as they prioritize the well-being of the average citizen and protect the rights of ordinary people. A country should not be solely for the benefit of the wealthy and big businesses.

I believe they will get rid of contractors. They always does. Also all of this agile/kanban people whose sole purpose is to mess up teams productivity for some illusive 'project tracking' purposes ;)

I would actually volunteer to be laid off, but as previously, noone will ask, and managers will probably receive list form HR and be done with it.

They should at first lay off all contractors or most of them. This is a purpose of them to exist in Poland. Beside this, it is harder and expensive to lay off normal employees in Poland.

@1ixk+1mu1yDQM this is an American founded company , but its a public company, which means that has investors(money invested)from all over the world.If you don't want offshoring then don't trade publicly and don't perform offshore sales.....The other way around , many companies like TikTok/booking.com etc etc employee Americans. Europeans never complained about the fact that we offshore as well. Your comment is out of reality .. but I understand you guys spitting your poison as the situation is not ideal and you are being emotional. Also note , that education and skill sets nowadays are not subject of a specific territory. I can guarantee you BLR , PLN and many other countries have good talent to offer.

To the US friends, seeing so much (understandable) American patriotism and blaming offshoring. PLN or BLR is not your enemy. Capitalism is. Your own born-and-raised in your very own America post-Regan capitalism, when tax for billionaires got cut down from 80/90% to 20% tops promising trickledown economy.

USA only has 1500 employees. If they lay off 500 that would be 33%. I think PLN and BLR need to be a bit higher.
