Has anyone tried to volunteer for their own layoff to receive the severance package and find a new job? Would you talk to hr or your manager for this?

I tried and failed due to weak leadership. All I got was chewed on for spending too much time preparing for succession. But happy to be out of there!
Tried November last year. Asked my boss if I can get laid off in the midst of the headcount reduction. He ran it up the flag pole, but my request was rejected.
I did this when the cuts were announced during covid year 2020 - and got accepted! I was able to work into 2021 while transitioning my team to other leaders. It helped that I had a good people leader who helped make it happen.
Retired and happy about it. I'd go crazy if I still worked there. The townhall meetings were bad enough 3 years ago. Nowadays I'd want to try some of tiremans scotch after hearing the drivel, and I'm a beer and wine guy only! He'd drive me to drink his hard stuff.
