Are the July lay offs for retail or NAD? Both?

Yes, the ‘Business is Human’ celebrations are ironic for sure. This slogan and JL as a leader couldn’t be further apart. They have been literally been laying off multiple times per year since the glory days of 16 consecutive quarters of double digit growth under Joe Doody.
It'll be interesting to see them explain "Business Is Human" if they actually do layoffs in July.
If it was performance based, a certain lawyer who failed as a sales leader but now has a VP title wouldn’t have a job right now
Totally disagree with the statement in one of these posts….top performers are not cut, mediocre to poor performers always are. What a false statement. I personally knew people who were loyal dedicated Staples employees for many years. And not high salaried employees either! Then just let go for no reason and devastated their lives and their families….all to meet numbers. Then kept the poor performers!! Go figure.
While I generally agree with the post below that if you do your job well you will not be cut, this has not been the case with this company. High performers who have been around for a long time and have a high compa ratio have absolutely been asked to leave. This company has a math problem, sales are declining and they need to control their expenses. Sometimes expensive employees are ask to leave leave because they have no choice. I have seen this over the last number of year too many times.
There will always be layoffs as the business shifts and the company navigates how to become relevant or downsizes as it fades away. They key is to just do your job well or leave. Top performers are not cut, mediocre to poor performers always are. If you are an expensive employee who is not hitting their numbers or not jiving with the current culture, you will be cut. Millennials and Gen Z are cheaper to hire and expect less, so that means you need to deliver that much more value to not be cut.
Given the crickets on this post, I am going to say that these layoffs aren't based in reality. I am interested to see at the corporate office if people move on from Staples since they gave an ultimatum to be in the office for 3 days a week, but not sure where these people would actually leave. I'm projecting layoffs for 2024 after the recession sets in for a bit.
