Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

The atmosphere is awful

It's not worth worrying ahead of time, but the atmosphere in the company hasn't been this tense in a long time. Uncertainty has a terrible effect on morale. Can anyone really stay focused on their work? I barely manage to finish daily tasks.

If you don't get cut this time, chatGPT will make sure you do next time. " IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, in an interview with a British newspaper, explained that in fields like customer service, human resources and positions within finance and health care could all see automation - not years from now but in the current day." So if you want a job, you have to beat chatGPT. The labor shortage has officially ended.

As long as they layoff non working employees, managers who does politics all the time, managers who sc--w hard working ones and etc,
I don't worry. Infact looking forward for more layoffs. This company needs more. Being an engineer, It motivates me to do more good work.

You only have to worry if you are lacking in skills or talent. People with talent either (a) won't get let go or (b) will be let go with severance and Weill be able to easily get a good job in 6 months.

if you do not have any talent (or H1B - which is effectively the same thing), well, it's never too late to switch careers and industries to Uber driver to real-estate minion. Also, if you are just starting to worry now, it's too late. You should have been starting to worry 2-6 months ago.
