I think my position is being eliminated but instead of paying my severance, they’re going to offer me a job I don’t want and am in fact not qualified for.
They want me to just quit.
That’s honor???

I’m the original poster of this thread. I was laid off and did get the severance but a coworker was offered a job he really didn’t want and was told that if he didn’t take the job he’d be considered as having resigned with no severance. So they did what I was expecting, just not to me.
Honor went out the window a while ago. Sad
I've been with the company quite a few years and the folks I started with were telling these same type of stories from decades ago. It appears things haven't changed much.
Sounds about right. I’m a former employee that was laid off at the end of last year (with 4 months notice off being laid off) and I think it’s comical that they keep reposting jobs that they let people go that they could have slated into those jobs and who would have been loyal employees, but the ‘honor’ I received was being laid off and then right after the layoff notice got an email saying I was doing such a great job from the HR ELT that I was getting a raise - super great messaging after being told you’re no longer needed by the company. I hear they keep bleeding talent and it’s a complete disaster. Not at all shocking and I’m sure it will keep heading that route. this is what happens when all the ELT sees is dollar signs and think people are overpaid when in fact they were the ones helping keep the ship afloat - good job ELT!
You got more ‘honor’ from the company than some. I’d put in minimal effort if I was you - keep collecting a paycheck as long as they will allow. Good luck!!
Well, just accept the new role and do your best. The upside is you learn something new and hopefully can make it a niche area so that you don’t get laid off, if that’s a concern. Also, hit the gym eat healthy. Health is wealth!
