The marketing team members in the field were let go for at least the fourth time in the last seven years. Although everyone was supposed to be "global" in the last change, this was never really the case. Those teams were kept at arm's length tasked with doing busy work that Global couldn't figure out or be bothered with.
Everyone has to reapply for a handful of jobs that are more ceremonial at this point (new stores and donations) than anything else. Sonya didn't have the juice to do it all at once years ago (the shift to total centralization hadn't happened yet), but she has been slowly working to get all of the marketing function in Austin. She likes to know who's in the office and when. She doesn't trust people to be working if she can't see them at their desks.
If patterns of the past can predict the future, it'll be about 24 months and these final jobs in the field will also be eliminated.
