Elon has proved social media doesn’t need so many engineers

As long as you find the ones you need to keep.

Funny thing is that Craigslist is in decline because of FB Marketplace. Maybe they can get by with even less than 50 employees.

You could realistically sunset half the facebook platform without anyone noticing

Elon has proved that you don't need as many engineers if you don't have any ads to serve

Infosys, Wipro, etc. have trouble delivering a competent project solution, so they'd never be able to take over infra. Their skill set is limited to calling an API from a web page, so maybe outsource that aspect.

maybe outsources those teams to Infosys to lower those costs?

Maybe. FB has a much a larger infra. They make much of the hardware in their data centers in house. So perhaps they don't need that many product engineers. OTOH, Twitter is partially in the cloud. Of course, the more FB dives, the less the need of their infra.
