Thread regarding 3M layoffs

We should be safe until Monday

I think we're done with layoffs for this week only. Friday is not the usual day for layoffs, so I think that anything further they have planned will most likely wait until Monday. This is my own speculation, though, based on my long history with layoffs and not in any way confirmed.

Agree on the comment about performance. I "retired" two years ago but was happy because I had had enough of the backstabbing culture. Plus, I was the only one eliminated from my team as their leader so was glad that my going may have saved me from firing a perfectly good and loyal employee.

The JP Morgan guy is so right. These cuts are not working. We've cut the fat below LG15 long before this past 12 months.

Hold your head high and go do wonders at 3Ms competitors.

Today, Marketing and lab positions were communicated. Such challenging days these are. You feel guilty if your position survived, sad to see people you have worked closely for years be eliminated and continued concern for what the future holds. Everyone try to do something they enjoy or relaxing this weekend, this are still more people to be notified.

Ps. For those impacted, remember in the days to come, you were NOT let go because of performance… it was a business decision. Fight any negative chatter that may pop into your head.

It's because St. Paul historically doesn't work on Fridays. That's the day for golf and happy hour. They respect their groups "no meeting Fridays" as to where the plants find Fridays as the perfect time to schedule unwanted meetings over the top of HCBG NO MEETING FRIDAY.

Once upon a time, as a retired people leader I can confirm that Friday's were sacred from layoffs. HR told us that having people shell-shocked and depressed over the weekend was a terrible thing to do. Get it done no later than Thursday by lunch time.

Well, the "new" 3M has nothing in common with the 3M lauded in Good to Great book of the 1980s. Even in the 1990s people were treated with much more respect than this.

My friend got an invite from her boss and HR around 6:30 am for an 8 am meeting. They are definitely still proceeding on Friday.
