In the mid 1990s, Desi spun off the data storage and related business as imation, which was a shell of the old 3M business in 10 years and is completely extinct today as 3M/imation never figured out the future of data storage, an area where 3M was king until the 1990s. Though this move was brutal for the imation (former 3M) folks, it was a wise move by Desi to strengthen what was left.
The HC spin is a reverse imation, spinning off the best and not worst business to save it from the ruins.
Not saying I agree with these moves but the ink is almost dried that mike is leaving by 2024, moni gets HC CEO, and Vale is king of remain-co.
So which business is the worse one in remain-co and will be jettisoned first by Vale.
