Sorry for all of you being let go. I don't work for Amazon but have been in your position several times. I find this all the more aggravating because the CEO has over 100 billion dollars and a massive yacht. Like what would you do with all of that money?

My access was shut off in the middle of my customer presentation onsite. We were talking about disaster recovery and it looked like my systems went down. Not a good look. I had to inform my leadership of the personal email I received that I had been laid off. They had no idea it was coming, either. I am going to disagree and commit here that this layoff was not customer obsessed and failed to earn trust with the workforce and the customers they were helping yesterday.

There were a variety of factors used, atleast that is what I heard from a VP I know who was in the know (though he wouldn't tell me a thing until he was no longer in the office). However the factors seemed to vary org. In my group, they got rid of all the remote staff that were not near a corporate office. One of whom was also a low performer that had gotten on all the managers nerves with indecisiveness.

A couple other laid off folks in my group were previously on teams working on projects that were abandoned several months ago. Then got re-org'd, and up until today were working on high priority projects that would save the company millions of dollars. A few other folks also involved in those abandoned projects were let go. So there was a lot of decision making based on old data.

BigTech boxed us in pretty good.

They abruptly changed requirements to work on site. Now the laid off masses will have a much harder time relocating to start a better position in different FAANGs.

@tdu+1mkVXvee If you are betting, it means you dont know what you are talking about.

If it is a “lay off”, it cannot target only a certain performance group. They already have PIP that is used to push 6% out every year anyway. I have seem people explaining in another faang there was more than 18 parameters considered in the decision. Performance was a low weight. I hear people who performed well in the company for many years have been affected. For example, the “Halo” thing was elimimated. If you are not lucky and employed in a group like that, the business is discontinued and that is it. Grow up, son.

I would bet my a shiny new dime that everyone let go today was in FOCUS earlier this year and went to PIVOT without their knowledge.

Here's the thing - if you're not improving a product or service that is making money at Amazon, and you are someone who rocks the boat sometimes, you're out.

This is not a RIF - this is a culling. Execs are using this to get rid of every troublesome priest out there.

I got sacked today too. How did I find out? I was doing my job writing emails and they shut off my email access. I thought it was a technical issue. Two hours trying to troubleshoot. But nothing was working. I had to call my manager and that’s when he told me. He didn’t have any advanced notice and neither did his manager. No explanation as to how anyone was selected. People who have been promoted this last Forte were sacked too.

I met a dude with PhD Computer science and 7 years AI/ML who got nailed. Solutions Architect are also dropping like flies. It seems that managers also got the ax.

Very sorry to all affected. It will be turn out to be better in the future.

Folks, there are plenty of open jobs out there. I find disturbing, hypocritical and frankly embarrassing the communication style of how mgmt. delivers the news. Even ChatGPT says the >

"“While this moment is hard, I remain energized by the important work that lies ahead of us,” Amazon’s head of HR Beth Galetti wrote in a note to her team. “Together, we are building a workplace that helps fuel how Amazonians invent and deliver for customers.”

I'm sincerely very sorry for folks who are getting laid off from AWS today. Sucks. Just remember, you aren't your job, it isn't personal, and you will recover from this temporary setback.

Best wishes to all. Hang in there.

Got sacked today. Was rated outperforming last year. Wondering how they made the decisions whom to let go.

9000 over all I think.

I got the dreaded mail from Beth ... And no, right now I am not saying which department I am in / been in / won't be in.

Made me laugh though that they ask to essentially install amazon apps like Chime and AtoZ to personal phone for ease of access.

Oh yea - my priority right now is totally to make it easier for you to get me the information.

Not only that. I met a dude L6, PhD in CS, 7 years in AI/ML. Laid off and dropped like a fly. Kiind of hard to understand why not reassigning the dude to another team.
