.....since they are vertically merchandised.....
MST corporate forces these ridiculous POGs where shelf space takes priority over safety.
Those boards are super heavy and should be flat. Just more lame brained ideas from Blowes
Hope the family sues.
On a serious note, this is sad to read about. It would be interesting to understand what was occurring when this happened. Was the employee tidying up the display, restocking the boards, etc.?
Customers probably sift through those boards and don't push them backwards into the pile. Companies over-purchase materials and then force stores to find ways to stock or store them. This creates dangerous situations for employees as they are often ordered to 'find a solution' whenever sites are unprepared for the consequences of these decisions made elsewhere.
Unfortunately, any OSHA penalties will end up being a slap on the wrist, as companies frequently contest these penalties until they are significantly reduced.
Hopefully, Lowes Management commits to doing better, but I doubt the durability of those efforts.
That's sad to hear. I'm sure customers are relieved that no dogs were injured.
From the Lowe's Reddit: Associate died after a large amount of 8ft shelving boards fell on him after unhooking the safety cable that keeps them from falling on people, since they are vertically merchandised.
What happened?
The media may not be interested, but OSHA is surely is.
