i think they held on to outdated tech and supply chain practices for way too long; as a former longtime employee, in my opinion, the beginning of the end was when they had to start updating from JDA, and i feel like that was more because no one could fix it anymore rather then wanting to jump into the 'modern' age. it must have been a MASSIVE expense they had tried to hold off forever; that and updating to the 'cutting edge' touch screen registers 😂 i remember how they tried to hype it up like some brand new technology, like most retailers hadn't had touch screen registers for over a decade at that point

I think Mark played a much greater role in the demise. Bad decision after decision. However, the old regime never embraced change and wasn't willing to adjust to new ways. Business is always changing, what worked 10 years ago, won't stay that way forever. Both are at fault.

Steve T was fantastic in the 90s but failed to get on board and recognize the importance of e-commerce. You see, Warren and Leonard were progressive in the 70s. They knew what the modern shopper wanted at the time. Steve T brought it more modern and then the lack of awareness bit them. They did not move on and embrace the technology side of shopping. The end!!
I think his actions put the demise of the company in motion. His lack of action in e commerce hobbled it.
