Thread regarding 3M layoffs

For sale: one corporate resort + 3 jets

Any guess on what 700 acres with miles of shoreline in northern MN fetches these days? Wonewok has been under scrutiny for decades, and they've finally shut it down & will begin marketing it soon. Jimmy Mac wanted to sell it in the early '00s until he realized that it was a beautiful, powerful tool and once gone could never be acquired again.

Guess the execs will have to get used to NetJets or--gasp--commercial (first class, of course) for their travel.

Am hearing 3M is asking $7M for Wonewok that consists of ~650 acres and features 2+ miles of shoreline on Mantrap Lake..
On Zillow, there’s a 4 bedroom, 4,600 sq ft house on 8.5 acres that is listed for $1.1M. This house is on Mantrap Lake, too. (22728 Jasper Dr, Nevis, MN 56467)
Based on all the infrastructure within Wonewok, plus all the shoreline property, as well as Petit Lake (which is a private lake within the property)… $7M seems like someone is being offered a sweat heart deal. Who provides oversight within corporate governance to make sure this transaction is above board?

@1lmd+1mjeKWNX Noob,

Wonewok is a 3M-owned conference center/resort located near Park Rapids, MN. It has been a 3M property for a very long time, decades. It has a capacity for something like 30 or so people at a time. It is in a pretty prime location for Minnesota 'cabin country'.

It is used for customer entertainment, executive retreats, and employee rewards. For employee rewards things like 'top sale people in division' and 'corporate CTE&I' winners have historically received a trip up there.

In tracking the jets, it is probably the most common destination.

The jets will be last. Wonewok must be a huge expense. It is amazing to be fair, but since they stopped any award programs not sure anyone other than customers and the execs have been going.

There has been no official announcements about jets...methinks our top dogs will not let that go as a perk for the hard work that they put in for 3M.

Roman mentioned it at the earnings call this morning. Exiting a north MN meeting facility.

Also heard about the release of both of these asset types in the late afternoon today.

I thought I saw some rattling about the retreat area and jets a week or two back, on here. Someone was either very close or great at guessing.

Where’d you hear Wonewok and the jets are gone ?

I totally agree with both, just sad about Wonewok. But if shitcanning it can save a few dozen jobs then he-l yes.

They are (or exiting the lease, if that's the case). H@mmes even had a cute little stylized jet icon for the bullet point on the slide deck. The director who runs aviation & Wonewok obviously had a very, very bad day (and she's good people).
