Yes it means they cannot sell in the UK which is a sizable market. But now this will also embolden the EC/EU, China and FTC to follow suit. It strengthens each of their cases that another regulator came to the same conclusion.

Stupid question - what effect does this have ? Does this mean the merger of those two cannot go ahead or they may not be able to sell in the UK ?

Wow, I’m very surprised. UK is punching above their weight class here.

I think CMA has already made up their mind that’s why they dropped the SmartNICs. So it would appear they did some conceding when in fact it was already predetermined … it’s a tactical move

Broadcom should have set their self imposed deadline to 2025 or 2026…

The never ending investigations.
Its crazy how long these people take. even after almost a year, they are just now announcing an "aggressive" timeline to finish in august. These people shouldn't be in charge of regulating koolaid stands in front yards.

Or maybe interoperability is really the target because there will be major repercussions for future merges if Broadcom doesn’t present a compelling case. SmartNICs can also still be pursued by other regulators. CMA probably feels they have broader support from 3rd parties on the other objections. And besides other regulatory bodies can still pursue that avenue.

I find it quite interesting the CMA dropped the third objection- relating to SmartNICs. That one seemed the most difficult for Bcom to speak to. Now that provision has been dropped, seems to me Bcom has an easier time job.
