A. Talk to your manager first about what you want and ask for their help
B. Talk the manager of the BU you want to go to

Jobs online process is used in ireland, but are often unofficially blocked or dealt with by using a nod and a wink system between managers when they want to keep it out of HR.

For those claiming their internal transfer were blocked, what your manager told you about why, maybe you are important to the work, cannot afford to lose you?

Some groups would not take your interest seriously if you do not do online applications first to start, e.g., take a look at your resume and talk to you informally. Why do they waste time on anyone wanting to just talk? Doubtful the system sends the notifications to current managers about your applications. It was changed years ago to no notifications till the offer was to be made.

Ideally, you interviewed with the hiring group and got some unofficial offer, then you talk to your manager about your new interest. Then the two managers talked, if your manager does not block you, the offer will be made official, and happy you go.

If you’re asking anyone in Intel leadership for a
“Better Fit”, for safety/defensive purposes you better be specific!

Joking aside, I periodically would “pre-interview” with managers in other departments — nothing formal. It was a great way to learn about other parts of the business, and if a current manager would complain I would make that argument and note that it wasn’t a formal interview.

I'm in Ireland too,
I told my manager that I would go to HR after I was blocked from moving 3 times, he laughed and said that DMs check in with each other before offering a job so they just block you off the books.
Only way is out...

never talk to your manager first.

email the hiring manager telling him you're interested in the job and why you're qualified. tell the hiring manager you want to keep this off the radar for now. he'll understand.
go interview for the new job and only if the hiring manager is interested in you 'officially' applying for the job should you use the internal job application system intel has to apply for the job. they can't make a job offer until use that system.

btw that system sends notification to your existing manager that you're applying for a new job.
and don't be surprised if your old manager gives you a bad review on the way out the door. they have job 'review' quotas to fill.

B, definitely B. Don’t go to the manager unless you want to shoot yourself on the foot. Don’t go to HR unless you want to jeopardize your job.

A: if you have a good relationship with your manager and up the chain, you can discuss if you have a strong possibility. I would not just if you are looking.

B: if no risk concern of getting back to your mgr can do informational 1x1, regardless if req is posted.

C: can get some benefit from that. Should be confidential. No risk if you set a meeting for information. Should. E no risk for what you share either, unless a safety, ethics, etc. That would require warm line to take action.

I have done all three depending on the situation.

Right now I would be most cautious of A.

I've tried both A & B in Irl, both transfers were blocked. :-(
I am not sure what Warmline is?
External is my only option now I reckon.
