Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

Quitting Amazon Trivia

10,000-25,000 corporate employees quit: Jassy high fives board.
25,000-40,000 corporate employees quit: Jassy high fives board and blinks.
40,000-60,000 corporate employees quit: Jassy stares at the ceiling, adjusts RTO to 2 days/week.
60,000-90,000 corporate employees quit. Jassy shivers, adjusts RTO to 3 days/2 weeks.
90,000-120,000 corporate employees quit. Jassy, HR in panic mode. WFH.

Quitting is the strong show of force. Corporate politics/rules are just random noise. You make your rules when you quit, not Jassy.

Welcome back, HR Troll. Yes, it's trivial to "simply" be asked to go to work 3 days a week (which will become 5 days), isn't it?

When you're "simply" caring for a disabled parent at home, "simply" live 3 hours from your nearest assigned office, or "simply" have a disability that is being politically denied by Amazon, I kid you not, it is "simply" tyrannical. And your mixing up the ability of one to do work more efficiently do remote working with being privileged - class trolling - tyrannical too.

The only fad here is your trolling, and the short sighted decisions of the S-team (basically Jassy) that led to the mess around hiring, real estate, poor cash flow control.

Work from home is permanently here to stay. In the end, employees make the rules - not Jassy. Quit and move wherever you like - don't let someone offshore you.

“ Tyrannical” is such a hilariously privileged take for simply being asked to go to work for 3 days a week.

C’mon, we knew the remote fad was always going to end. It’s why moving to the middle of nowhere seemed to be a terribly short sighted decision.

It was good while it lasted, at least it’s harder to justify offshoring for people you actually see.

30% quit at Twitter, but they're so much smaller than Amazon. Twitter decreased employee count by 80% overall. Amazon did about 10% (27000), and then at least 15% leave. Close to 30%. A lot can happen in 18 months though. RTO will be 5 days a week :)

Based on the Twitter experience, about 30% quit once RTO was enforced and other perks were cut.

The market is tight now. So I imagine in the next 18 months, about 15% will voluntarily leave - which is probably what some of these employers want.

No, I think it's more about quitting Jassy (and his tyrannical policies) rather than quitting Amazon. Like quitting a manager. Amazon used to be a great company before Bezos departed for good.

If you worked at Amazon, you can certainly work at McDonalds and Goldman Sachs - continue to make your wealth there. So many options.

Yes because all Amazon corp employees are independently wealthy.
