So the warehouse I’m at has shifted from 3 shifts to 2 and now to 1 here soon….. think layoffs are next if something doesn’t change.

Very interesting, and not surprising. I work at the JCP warehouse in Reno, and our business has been going down for years. We used to have 2 full shifts, but last year went to 1 shift. And that shift is smaller than in the past, has zero overtime, and even cuts us short of a 40 hour week all too often. I have not averaged a 40 hour week in the last 2 years.
To put that in perspective, 5 or more years ago we were working 6 days a week, 10 hour days, 2 shifts per day. 60 hours a week were common here for years, usually mandatory, but sometimes voluntary.
Layoffs are not really needed since our turnover rate is so high... they either don't or can't replace people, so we just limp along. They are talking about cutting our hours in an official way, giving us 4 days or 4 1/2 days a week steady, but no actual layoffs yet.
Our business is slowly dying. Very sad for people like me who have really put their heart and soul into the place for many years.
That’s interesting. We were just saying our freight shipments to our store are one day a week and never get a full truck anymore. That’s to be expected in Jan-Feb but not in April right before summer.
