Thread regarding Cencora / AmerisourceBergen layoffs

AB Bloodbath of 2023

I've seen a lot of inaccurate information so far so I thought I'd put together what I believe to be true.

First the 1% talking point: Yes 450 was the approximate number of layoffs out of a total company wide global workforce population of 45,000. This is quite misleading however. AB is a distribution company and therefore by nature has a significant blue collar work force. To my knowledge distribution was untouched by this event. This was strictly a corporate level white collar level layoff in the USA only. That puts the affected population of associates closer to 4,500 or 10% of the USA corporate workforce was let go. Everyone that I know of that was termed along with me was between the level of Manager and Senior Vice President.

Severance : AB has a documented generous severance policy that is accurately detailed in other posts here - It was adhered to and outgoing individuals were treated with respect. (This is from talking with several individuals that were my former co-workers.) With layoffs there are of course several unhappy people out there flaming AB atm - I don't blame them at all, I'm not happy either.

Who knew what and when and why?: This has all the makings of a bean counter, audit driven cleanup of the management layer within AB. Non revenue making and redundant managerial positions were eliminated under the guise of expense control. The notations that we held dear such as: Hard work, Dedication and Loyalty were not factors. Nor was your personal situation or attributes. This made me very sad. Before this week I thought I had worked for a company that valued their employees and to the most extent that is true. The people that I know and worked with are extraordinarily compassionate, caring and dedicated. At the end of the day we were servicing patients in need and that was our driving focus. These are not the people that made this decisions however. It was cold and very calculated and planned over the course of months by a soulless number crunching evaluation of the corporate structure post a global merger. Sadly, it was up to the members who survived to give out the news to the positions and friends that were let go and many were visibly upset by it.

Purpose Driven?
When companies like AmerisourceBergen claim to “shine a light on the kindness and generosity that we see in society,” while not checking and validating opi--d orders costing hundreds of thousand lives also illegally refilling Cancer injection vials to gain more vials to make a bigger profit!!!! At a great risk to very ill cancer patients.
All purpose-driven messages ring hollow , “Before you launch your purpose campaign, put your house in order.” Pay all your fines and then be honest about pharmaceuticals and health care! Disgusting company after more & more dollars and nothing else! it’s all an internet marketing scam and not the reality of the business you are in, you are driving without any purpose at all, just your year end Dollars, and insider trading!

I believe the reason they keep changing their name is because they want to distance themselves from the Opi--d Lawsuit. It's a magic move, watch this hand while the other is making it look like they are a law abiding company. I agree it's a sham company, keep changing the name, the feds will catch up with you ABC. Cencora means the following: Freedom Lover
Cencora is a girl name1. The name means Freedom Lover, Playful, Friendly. Total BS for that company. Crooks!!!

ABC / AB / Cencora (can't keep up with the name changes that cost millions and millions of $ btw) has made a habit of late of retaining cut-throat "leaders" (I use that term very very loosely) and laying off the compassionate ones - many of whom were incredibly productive but unfortunately cared about humans, not only the bottom line. This may be good for short-term shareholder satisfaction and making SC and the rest of the c-suite wealthier but will ultimately eat away at the soul of this once revered company. If you are still employed by this sham of a company, take my advice, and get out while you still have some dignity.

I largely agree with your take. The only thing I’d disagree with is “Non revenue making and redundant managerial positions were eliminated under the guise of expense control.”

I know people who were directly responsible for bringing in several million dollars in sales and contracting. They were also eliminated. Makes me so, so, sad and further confirms my fear it was an AI-recommended model.
