Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

More full-timers

The open positions at my store are full time. I think the company is swinging the other way, getting more full timers as they will stay longer than part timers. That's what I hear from the office

Could this be the truth? I'd welcome a change like this, but so far this has not been true for my store.

Those associates that they are hiring for full-time positions are retired. They get SSI and a pension and Medicare, so they don't have to worry about medical insurance. They come from Macy's part time jobs. They laid off the the seasonal people expecting to keep them on the job roster. But there not giving the seasonal part time Hrs. All we hear is excuses.
People on SSI can only work so many hours a year before they have to pay money back. So, it's a win,win for Macy's.
So, when the busy season starts they get to take time off to avoid having to pay money back. That's why it pays to be retired.

Correct. They think FT people are more likely to stay. Unfortunately the phone hire is hiring people with wacky availability
