There was no email. Everyone got a phone call. Majority of the layoffs were at Carbon Black. For sure the US region was effected. I don't know about the other regions.

What geo was mostly impacted? hearing conflicting information. But man unfortunately this is calm before the storm....

More than 50% of the Salesforce and all of the sales and SE managers were let go.
Update to original message- the message those impacted received from leadership was that 3-4k employees across VMW (not CB) were impacted. As far as I know, all inside sales managers were let go.
