Thread regarding Sears layoffs

At This Point Who Could Save Sears & Kmart?

With another Sears going away soon in Greenboro, Caroline is there anyone out there who can save Sears? Why doesnt the Sears get a bail out like Generel Motors did a few years ago? Sears, Kmart, and Officie Max are an American shopping icon. For them to be slowly going away is really sad. I hope someone comes in and saves these great companies before they go out of our business for good. Eddie L is not saving our favorite stores sadly and it makes me sad.

Hopefully someone like Elion Musk or Mark Cueban will save Kmart and Sears from going out of business.

8 track players and VHS tapes will come back (and I'll be playing on a MLB team) before Sears or Kmarts return (in any meaningful way). Notice I didn't use the phonograph analogy, because they are very popular now.

In a sense of speaking, Sears and Kmart) have been "saved." The residual collection of businesses in real estate, repair, brand licensing, loyalty marketing (SWY), e-commerce (Sears.com, Kmart.com) have not disappeared. SHO was shut down. The remaining full-line stores will in time be shut down. The company has been reduced to ancillary businesses that once were a rounding error in the financial statements of the "tremendous opportunity" that was sold to the world in 2005. To the extent these businesses continue, and provide some marginal gain, then we have a the remnants of a going concern. Until the news comes that whatever is left was shut down, the company continues. The company might be 10%, 1%, .1%, .01% of what it once was, but the place is still limping along. At this point the one thing that could torpedo what is left are the property taxes and operating expenses--they never go away--for a vacant Hoffman complex.

At this point who could save Sears & Kmart? The real question is: At this point who in their right mind would want to save Sears or Kmart?

Sigh, why do y'all keep trolling? No such thing as "Bloke" busters and no they are not coming (not comeing) back, regardless of what is posted on their silly website. Nobody is rushing out to borrow VHS tapes from a store in 2023.

And the owner of Sears is Ed LAMPERT. LamPert is not opening any new stores.
Man, these people must be bored.

I don't get it. Why would anyone want to save Sears or Kmart???? Neither one has any value unless it is the only store in your area that sells anything. A really stupid question.

@ird+1maLlAWA No, Blockbuster video isn't "comeing" back (it's spelled coming by the way not comeing).

They have 1 location left, as a novelty. They are not returning to any extent past that.

It's spelled ELON MUSK and CUBAN. And who or what exactly is CAROLINE? Eddie fking owns the company, you doofus! It's his decision what he does or doesn't "save". No other entity has a right to infringe on his privately owned business and instruct him how to run Said business. Are you people thick?

@fsc+1maLlAWA 100% right. People don't seem to understand how private ownership works. If someone has a classic car but they're not restoring it well, I have no right to go in and "save" his car, because I don't own it.

All these questions about Why Doesn't save Sears and Kmart? They don't save these stores because they don't own them. Eddie owns them and they are not for sale. And even if they were, names mentioned would have no reason to buy a dead retailer with approx 20 stores. You can't do anything to recover Sears and Kmart. Dead Brands.

Why?? Icon???? Most of my children's generation doesn't even know what a Sears or Kmart is. I myself haven't been in, or even seen one in over 2 decades. They saved General Motors to keep jobs...........Sears & Kmart have less than 20 stores combined on the mainland and about 3 employees in each so what's to save? Let it RIP. Much more to be sad about in this world than an old dead department store chain.
