Is it possible that so many people want to be laid off or am I imagining things? I don't understand why anyone would want to lose their job at this moment?

For some, you get the package and then start a contracting gig until you are ready to jump back on the horse. Easy Money. After 6 months, they call you back, and you work another 3-4 years. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Why? Because 29+ get an 11 week severance. If they quit they get nothing, but if Optum RIFs them, it's a 3 month paid vacation.
I know I can find another job in those 3 months, so it ends up being a net positive.
I don’t WANT to be laid off but it’s hard always coming to work and having to worry if I will have a job at the end of the day. It’s easier if they just do it and get it over with. I would be far more relieved than worrying day by day if and when it’s going to happen.I am seeing every month where one group or another is being outsourced to Philippines, so why wouldn’t I worry? And to answer some other negative comments:I don’t want to just sit on my a-s and collect unemployment-it’s cr-p pay. Yes, I am looking for other work. Yes, I do have a good amount saved up jic.
they want to be laid off so they can live off tax money and not have to work for awhile, while everyone else has to pay for them not to work
Ref: "Step up and drive your career path"... This way management can save RIF severance pay out and less transparency coming from this layoff forum? Why dont you worry about your own career path and stop playing the reverse psychology. You are trying too hard to get people to leave.. lol...
I don’t understand wanting to be laid off. Is this the best I job in my career? No but finding a job when you have one is always best. If you are sitting around waiting and hoping to be laid off, do us all a favor and leave. So many want and need to keep their jobs. Step up and drive your career path.
People saying “just leave”…. Have you tried? It’s harder than ever to find a job right now! The people wanting to get laid off probably have money saved, have been here long enough to get a decent severance and will get unemployment to pull them through for months
Misery loves company - so true some are rewarded handsomely and able to save. Last thing we need is lessen the “blunt” and perhaps try to be compassionate? . The truth always comes out, doesn’t it?
A lot of people on here either seem like they hate their lives, their jobs or don’t even work for the company. It’s like yelp reviews, most of the time people complain on there instead of compliment a place. Some of them sound miserable and maybe should think about quitting if you’re that unhappy.
The layoffs are stressful, I get it. I get stressed over them too, but at the end of the day, not much I can really do. I just know I have money saved up if something happens.

To “I don’t get it either”- perhaps some people I felt “betrayed”? You may be one of the few feel job security? It’s “trust” being lost when this org spends more energy to find ways to avoid severance pay out and reduced to pressure middle management on “force” ranking to meet the RIFs margin. Do you honestly believe this is good for employees morale or mental health? People come to this forum to vent not because they are not looking or working on planB to exit..
I don't get it either. If you're that unhappy, just find something else and leave. People are acting like they are chained to their desk. Why would you want to be in a position to have no job and search while your severance runs out when you can do it at your own pace?
I'm staying. They're staying. But it just feels so empty.
How all these individual companies/products needed to operate to gain a solid market share is very different to what I am seeing today as we are all corralled in a heap. Like livestock ready for Auction.
Large organizations need to operate differently. The foundation is always TRUST. And with seeing my talented co-workers s-b, cry and need help due to being terminated. Trust has been eroded. Erosion of trust is always a by-product of reductions.
We all think we have answers, few actually have great answers. Unfortunately no one is asking us for them - so we all sit in a coral. Mooooing
That's how bad this company is.
