Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Unionize!

Times like these are hot glowing reminders that there is power in numbers and collective bargaining. We create their products! We provide their services! We maintain everything! What do they do but put on a facade of "expert decision making" that only results in stupid decisions that inevitably force the consequence on us!

Union strong!

I hope everyone impacted in this current and the previous layoff find greener grasses and brighter days.

I love how the solution for RIF is to unionize. If there’s a hint of a union they’ll immediately reduce the workforce further then cut even more benefits. Ignorant suggestion

There’s not a big enough appetite for a pharmacist union. Too many part time pharmacist band-aiding open shift coverage. I know part time women who will drive a whole hour each way to cover a 4 hour shift. The full time pharmacists have no leverage when the company can continually cover shifts (or partial shifts) without paying benefits (medical, PTO, profit sharing,etc.)

I say no thanks to unions. Your situation is not the same as mine. You don't have to work for Walgreens. Unions force you to pay extra fees to the Union out of your paycheck just take more of your paycheck for little return. And its not the union that pays you - its still the company.

Why shouldn't white collar positions also form unions? The entire point of unions is give bargaining power to workers regardless of the type of work.

The writer's guild or our own Chicago teachers union are perfect examples of non-blue collar positions that use their union status to ensure proper raises, yearly raises (extremely important in times of economic volatility like right now), guarantee of benefits, extra hours being comp'd, pto being expanded, sick leaves being guaranteed, etc.

These were white-collar jobs that were impacted. Generally, not union positions.
