Thread regarding Commscope Inc. layoffs

Take pay-cut or stick it out?

Got a new job offer. Slightly less than how much I make at C/S. I feel like taking a pay-cut is and moving onto a stable company is the better choice.

Is it worth sticking it out at C/S?

It's true opportunity and potential don't pay bills. I often believe that "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush", but is CS really "a bird in hand" anymore? Over the past few years it's felt like trying to hold onto sand. It's better to get a new job when you currently have a job. If this new position is with a stable company, and you can afford the cut, I'd go for it.

Working at a growing company doesn't necessarily mean those benefits get passed down to you. It depends on your role.

Chuck is proof that an ivy league degree has no bearing on capabilities or intelligence.

Chuck lacks charisma, and it would appear, leadership ability. The Co is facing headwinds. Nay, a twister in the shape of the 2025 debt repayment. He should be seen leading from the front, and encouraging his troops with motivating statements. He would do well to emulate the leadership style of Henry V at Agincourt, and Nelson at Trafalgar for example. Instead, he is MIA and noticeable by his silence.
Like the majority of Americans, I would like to think that being a winner is in his dna and that he will turn CS around. He recently bought $250k stocks at $4.45, and also $500k at $10.41. Therefore, he is highly motivated to turn CS around. Hence, I am in for the ride. For now.

What is less? 5% less is a margin of error. 20% less would hurt.

Professional workers, no raises at CS 2023. How bonuses, equity, are impacted next year, nobody knows. Chuckles may and he won't tell us. It might be ok or might be nothing at all. Could be no raises come 2024 also.

Joining a company that is good financially, even a 10% pay cut today could equate to more $$ made in a years time. And you may see an actual increase in a years time that amounts to the salary gap.

Things are not good at CommScope now. There is little indication anything will improve quickly or at all. It is everyone's decision to weigh but a growing company who is hiring now, will be more stable and profitable employment in the long run.

Some long term employees may figure severance isn't worth leaving on the table. That may be true. It may not be true if emergency measures are needed and that is a real possibility.

If I had inadequate savings to handle a term of unemployment, I would not risk sticking it out here.

I agree that things at CS are getting worse, not better. That being said, I wouldn't take a pay cut unless you're wildly unhappy or you see an imminent layoff coming. My guess is you could find something paying more, not less, if you put your mind to it within a few months of really looking for a new job. Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

no raises this year and more than likely no bonus next year. It is going to get worse

You have to make you own decision, weighing everything. CS has been downsizing ever since the merger with TE in around 2015, 8 years ago now. There are also certain issues like cutting jobs in one location while hiring in another with meager relo benefits, which is a mild ethical issue, there are other mild ethical issues, there are issues of launching projects then suddenly stopping them, these cause stresses for employees, other companies might also be bad, you never know until you get there.

I am a former CS employee. Before I left, I took a small effective pay cut within CS when I switched teams (my decision). It put me in a group that was more stable and my income was more predictable though slightly lower. I left CS a couple of years later anyway. The problems at CS are systemic. If you can financially handle the pay cut now, I encourage you to go for it. It could be a good stepping stone to something better in the future and also gets you out of the toxic CS environment. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck and success.

Depends on whether or not a salary decrease would affect your quality of life right now.

You could negotiate if it's a sticking point.

Don't stay at a shrinking company. And dont go to one that is growing too fast, it's chaos.

It will be less stress related to how unstable CS and the way it is handled by CS
