Some advice please. I had a poor year last year, due to lack of opportunity. Beginning of the year my manager told me they would help with more opportunities, 6 months in no change and no help and i am feeling deflated and depressed. Prefer to stay or take the package if offered then leave..but is it worth talking to Hr about the way i am being treated by my manager, being discriminated and excluded, or will that be a career ending step?

Last time I tried to reach out to HR, I was place on hold for 3 hours. U less you know someone in the HR team, your best solution is either network your way out this hole you are in or start polishing your resume. Plenty of opportunities these days outside of Shell
You came to the right place for "poor manager advice"
Get used to it.
Look at MOR, apply for jobs that you want, if you have no success then sharpen your resume and start looking externally. Things won't get better here, this company is down-sizing and laying off good people.
Shell has an HR Dept?
Virtually silent in my 11 years before layoff, only surfaced once when an employee made death threats towards others, and even then pretty weak. HR suddenly appears though and is ever helpful at layoff time. Don’t waste your time, it will just expedite your departure.
Blah Blah Blah. Management is not interested in your career or coaching to the next level in the organization, especially if your below a JG4. They care about how well they look to their bosses and if that requires someone else to do your job then you’re on a fast track out. I’ve been around too long in this company and have see things change from the company really cared about the employees careers to identity politics where if your the right person matching what they think keeps them in step with the woke crowd, then your golden. It’s no longer about the individual but how it looks collectively. It’s really sad because at one time this was great company to work for. Those days sadly, are long gone.
Focus on doing your very best on things you can control. Regardless of your past, strive to develop positive relationships with those in your circle, that may have influence in your career. Force yourself, as hard as it may be, to have a positive attitude, and relentlessly and persistently strive for excellence in whatever you can control, which will at least be your attitude and work ethic, but likely much more. Force yourself to genuinely believe you will be successful. Even if it doesn't work out on this team, there are other teams within Shell or with other companies. Just don't wait for the "opportunity to be given to you", do everything in your power to "create the opportunity". This is easier said that done, but willfully trying to do this will help your overall career, whether with Shell or outside.
HR, as people have said, will at best be a waste of time, and at worst, as you suggest, be a career-ending step as HR will talk back to your manager. If you can't do some networking via other people to find a job and MOR doesn't work, try again with your manager. If still no joy, suggest then look to exit, preferably with the package. Good luck.
As others have said, don’t bother with HR.
Do you see a future for yourself at the company? If yes, I’d personally post for a new role in MOR. If not, then I’d start looking externally ASAP.
Also, don’t worry about your performance. Even if you got a Lower grade, it’s pretty unlikely you’ll get let go. I’ve seen multiple lowers rebound with a higher the next year (even same manager sometimes)
Most of HR in the first world country stick by managers and power circles, the ones in the East have very little to no power and influence. Shell is in a sad state of affairs- get out, there are many opportunities outside
Maybe a job ending step but not a career ki-ler. If you're leaving anyway, who cares?
But, seriously, crying to HR won't do you any good. I've never seen them, except the lawyers, involved in career issues. If your they-them manager is supposed to develop you, it is probably some top-down bullsh-t on their-its goals. So if you complain, maybe you'll at least go down in a blaze of glory. Stick it to the man.
Career ending step!!! From my past experiences HR only knows you as your employee number and they can care less about you. In the past I’ve tried to contact HR by leaving messages, sending emails and so on, never did hear anything from them, so my recommendation is don’t waste your time on HR. Most of HR is in a third world country and on another time zone.
