Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Entire Division Gone

After 12+ years of hard work, dedication, and loyalty my husband just got RIF’d from Walgreens Corporate in Deerfield. They eliminated his entire division. Important projects now up in the air, not to mention other IT initiatives that could jeopardize the organization. What are the decision makers thinking. Very sad. Switching to CVS, no more supporting this company. I hope they go under.

@Corporate LULZ you don't need a doctorate to come work at HQ, so if you want to go fix sh-t get yourself into an open position and start climbing.

Opinion: Walgreens Company … Stop trying to scramble to be all things to all people (yes, it is obvious) and focus on what Walgreens is best at. Go back to your roots and rebuild one step at a time.
For example, is luxury drone delivery a “need” or a “want” right now?

Our "division" is a call center that supports the store pharmacies, mail order pharmacy and e-commerce.

Hate to see anyone lose their job. My sympathies to those affected. Working for Walgreens makes for a pretty miserable experience but it's still a paycheck. That said, the technology we rely on is awful. Things rarely get fixed. Just work-arounds and new s.o.p.'s. in an effort to prop up dated and failed technology. Systems seem duct taped together as an earlier post pointed out.

Perhaps this is a blessing for the store level employees? A lot of initiatives from corporate, especially those that are IT in nature, do not execute well at the store level. By cutting this out of the company, we can minimize the amount of wasted time that gets spent on useless initiatives.

By the way, IT at Walgreens is already pretty bad as is. A lot of things don't work. Registers always crash for example.

I feel sorry but to be quite honest, its due to corporate management teams. Look I am a DBA candidate, working at a Deerfield location as a supervisor. I've been working on my dissertation about this company's horrible corporate strategies for quite some time. If I could go to corporate and tell them a thing or two about how to fix their company. How can you go from 80 dollars a stock to 30 dollars a stock.
