They absolutely know and they know if they put you on the chopping block and lie to your face when asked.
Yes, directors decide based on managers feedback so it is always the managers who cut people but they liked to blame on directors.
Historically, Director level positions actually make the call. Managers can argue for more time.
They are all lying. Each manager and their direct reports had to decide who from their teams, which positions could be eliminated and give up a name or two. That list went up the chain. And if not this round it will be the next one in Aug then Nov. Goodluck!
The director level made the decision. I was told to go by my boss's boss, he set up the meeting 2 weeks ahead. My boss had 1 on 1 with me 1 week ahead, and he did not show any difference but told me wait and see. Other manager I knew in my team told me he only knew I was let go the same day.
My Boss asked me if I was let go; the decisions were made at a higher level, first level managers are only told just before they tell you.
