Thread regarding VMware layoffs

An employee had a heat attack at HT-A

An employee had a heart attack this afternoon in HTP-A in Palo Alto. He was hauled away by an ambulance.

He has 2 kids and has been with vmware for about 5 years. His manager is among the most toxic people I ever met. His manager intentionally was misguiding and threatening him with his H1B status.

This is tough for me to realize what vmware has become. What managers are capable of to save themselves.

Limiting stock buy back at extraordinary scales to boot the stock price would help a bit.

Not sure either what cures this dysfunctional system that has been created.

How about limiting non founders CEO salary to 100x the median company salary as part of the “Jesus F Christ - no one is deserving of being paid that much”. legislation. Or if it is over 100x, then everyone else’s salary gets a 10% increase.

I still see some leadership referring to us as family. Seriously, this is a job that pays me for work that I do so I can provide for my family. Big tech, including this company has damaged any loyalty that was left to the these companies. I can see why more tech industry wants a move towards unions. CEO's and leadership for bad decisions they make with no accountability yet they still are drawing huge salaries. Its disgusting that this is where the industry is today. Not sure what would turn it around, except for unions.

A heart attack is years in the making -- genetics, diet, lifestyle. Attempting to associate the onset of this incident with a manager is wrong.

I do hope he recovers.

Remember:

  1. Your employer and co-workers are not your family.
  2. Put your health first above all else. If you are not exercising at least 3 days a week then as you age, with a sedentary lifestyle you will be putting yourself at risk of a myriad of health issues.
  3. Publicly traded companies are part of a system to make egregious amounts of money. Nothing can grow indefinitely, it will eventually decay and die.
  4. Don't do this because the money is 10, 20, or even 30% better than you could get elsewhere. Do what you enjoy.
  5. Never stop learning. Take that new certification. Stay on top.
