Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Public Service for Anyone Considering Teradata

I joined Teradata as Senior Director and stayed for more than half a year when I was laid-off. I have already moved on, but I keep seeing people celebrating getting hired by Teradata on LinkedIn. So, I figured I would be just an accomplice if I let other people join the company to witness and experience what I went through without any warning. Before joining Teradata I did check this forum and shrugged it off. Boy, was I wrong.

Teradata is a complete mess. There are many great employees in the ranks, mostly disgruntled given the complete absence of direction. The ELT is indeed clueless as you read from other threads here. I was promised certain strategy alignment, but after joining the company I noticed rather quick that I was hired only because my SVP needed to hire me and other colleagues to meet their hiring target which would therefore increase their bonus.

When this SVP left, I reported directly to an ELT member who is soft spoken and considered a people's person and great leader, but honestly never cared for anyone and sold most of his stocks in the days adjacent to our layoff.

So, if you are considering Teradata as your next employer, please read my experience. No money in the world justifies exposing yourself or your family to any hardship. Consider joining a winning team.

Thank you all.

Agree 100% with the OP. Worked for TD Corp IT for several years doing senior-level engineering, and am on my way out in a few days.

Toxic, toxic, toxic culture, despite all the flowery DEI talk (just PR). Was railroaded upon initial hire into saving TD from its own self-inflicted "technical debt" (a.k.a. pi-s-poor engineering). Passive-aggressive, non-technical management that constantly overrule their technical experts and refuse to follow industry-standard practices. And who then scapegoat their ignored experts later for the predictably-ill results. Public humiliations and beatings of employees, sometimes with vendors and family members listening on. Unrealistic due dates made with only fiduciary concerns in mind, never good engineering standards. 0% planning on all projects and wasting everyone's time with due date charts and a micromanaging project management program/office.

It is a shame, as there are a LOT of good engineers at TD still, and great colleagues. But as the OP stated-- most are disgruntled and looking at other opportunities on LinkedIn.

This is 100% true! If you are desperate for a job, then work at TD BUT do not believe their bs. Use it as a short term solution and find something else. Toxic as he-l! It’s a horrible place for your mental health, it’s not worth it for a long term option.

DS and a few of his Cronies are jokers who don’t care about the team but only care about their money. I know a hard working team based off India who are left in the lurch without any support and struggling to deliver. Their boss BM has spent 14 plus yrs in TDC & i wonder how he survives given his lack of leadership and empathy towards his own team. I have seen him throw his own team under the bus without any hesitation he is such a snake.

DS likes to use you and dump you.

This is the new model in engineering. They will gain your trust, sweet talk you, and even pay for what they want and dump you or backstab you if they see something better.

If you're desperate, TD can provide a lifeline until you find something better. Otherwise, think long and hard before joining TD. Anything they tell you during the interview process will no longer be true in 6 months.
