COBRA vs Healthcare . Gov

For those of us who were laid off, I highly recommend checking healthcare . gov for alternatives once your subsidized COBRA runs out.

My plan would cost me 700/month, and without the ability to contribute to an HSA. The exact same plan on healthcare . gov is about 300/month and I can still contribute to an HSA. Other plans that would at least cover my current provider also cost around 250 - 500 / month.

You can sign up to enroll beginning on the date your subsidy ends. It took me about 20 minutes to sign up and look at plans.

What do I do if I don’t work, have three kids 7 and under and my husband just died? Will CS offer cobra or something for my family and I while I figure it out or do they cut us off end of the month??

I genuinely hope that you will not allow your politics to prevent you from using the services available to you if you end up needing them, and that you won't need them. Best of luck to you.

GovCo is not a one stop shop for everything and healthcare is definitely not the place for them. They have a history of fking up everything they touch. They have done such a fine job with the economy lol. You sound like a liberal so go ahead and get your Medicaid and I bet they will throw in another booster or two for you. I will get my healthcare on the open market and be just fine.

I don't think an insurance company is that much better than the fed lol

The $300 is no different than what I found on the open market. I personally prefer not to have GovCo involved in my healthcare on such an intimate basis.

It’s called COBRA because it bites.
