Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Weird Prioroties

Interviewed in 2018 for a position up at the center. Went well. Wrapped up and asked about timing for followups. I sh*t you not, the interviewer looked at me and said “Well, I’ll be honest. You’re clearly a male and you’re clearly white. It’s going to take longer for you”.

Wow. OK. Appreciate the honesty I guess. Didn’t get the job, moved on and took a different job at another company. Ended up getting hired at 3M for a different role a few years later.

Immediately became clear that their priorities encompassed a lot of areas I wouldn’t have thought relevant for a for-profit company.

That’s OK. My boss was one of the best I’ve ever had, coworkers were incredible. And everytime I was in a meeting with the person who had interviewed me in 2018 I got a chuckle out of it. It was pretty clear from day one how dysfunctional 3M was from a leadership standpoint.

Position eliminated in one of the rounds. But when you see it coming a mile away you just kind of move through it. Much happier where I’m at now.

I don't have an MBA but Carlson is very good. Problem is, that in the Midwest, you will get a higher rank MBA from: U of Chicago, Northwestern (Kellogg), U of MIch, and Indy U.

Those four schools are definitely a step above in rankings (and probably starting pay) vs. Carlson. Carlson is the local option for General Mills and 3M CEO want-to-bes.

Carlson School of Management does not rank in the top 20 management schools in the US.

Top tier management consultancy firms such as McKinsey, BCG etc. do not hire fresh MBA grads from Carlson.

Enuff said !

How bored must someone be to post on a company forum board that they don't even work for anymore

DEI is cancer.

If a company goes woke, let's make them go broke.

Honestly, I have seen many companies who only hire white men. Some managers of other companies even confirmed in a private conversation that they don't hire women.
A HR lady from one of the biggest chemical companies told me her frustration that when women have a high salary expectation in the interview, they are dismissed. They are considered as greedy. If men ask for high salaries, they are considered as best candidates.

I rather work for a company that tries to stop these old behaviours than one who lives it. The grass on the other side isn't always greener.

Although for 3M, the grass might be greener, but for other reasons.

Be real. A quick search of the Carlson MBA admissions shows that the class is 16% people of color. Stop the lies about Carlson and stay on topic about this company.

Similar experience here, except at interview to get into the prestigious Carlson School of Management MBA program.

During our discussion the interviewer said I had impressive credentials. I scored in the top 2% on the GMAT test, and 8 years of engineering and marketing leadership expertise made me a top candidate.

It turns out enrollment quota for white males is restricted to 3%. Preferred candidates are women and people of color.
