To be honest, that's almost reassuring. They mention the inventory line that Intel has been repeating, so at least they're not making it up (or at least, not on their own)

Why is this a surprise? Times are tough for individuals and businesses. New PCs are not the top priority plus the days of needing to upgrade every 2-3 years are long gone. Most people can use a laptop or PC indefinitely. I am writing this from an 8th generation i7 laptop works great even though it is 5 generations behind. The biggest workout for it is the monthly set of patches for the OS. Most people probably have something newer than mine so Intel is screwed if they are waiting for the PC market to recover to previous levels. I will also comparison shop with AMD when I do replace mine. Performance differences are negligible but AMD is usually 2/3 the price of Intel.

It's brutally simple: A 2-3 year laptop with SSD/M2 is simply good enough vast majority of tasks.
