Team,
Since I joined the company, I’ve always been open and direct, even when it comes to sharing difficult news. This is one of those times.
Today we are making changes to our organization that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce by about 1,500 jobs. This means saying goodbye to some talented and dedicated employees and contractors.
The majority of our non-union teammates will be notified today and tomorrow, and we will be working with union leaders to offer voluntary separation benefits before considering involuntary reductions.
I recognize this is tough for all of us, especially those who are affected.
My goal today is to continue to be transparent and provide as much context as possible so everyone can understand why it’s necessary for us to do this, how we are supporting our teammates who are leaving and what happens next.
First, let’s talk about why we are doing this:
Since we emerged from bankruptcy a little over two years ago, we have spent every day working to transform our company.
Every quarter, we progress operationally, and we move step by step to make Frontier a better company. We are now the second largest fiber builder in the country, and we are winning market share because there is strong and growing demand for our high-speed fiber broadband.
The challenge, as I have shared many times on Listen Live, is that our costs are too high for a company of our size.
Our costs are higher than our competitors and the complexity of our organization is slowing us down. Like other companies, we must also manage the external cost pressures that come with inflation. We need to transform into a more agile, efficient and innovative company, so we can better compete and grow.
As a result, we have conducted a top to bottom review of our organization and made the decision that we need to take steps to reduce our costs, simplify our organizational structure and improve our ability to win.
I know this explanation doesn’t make it any easier for those leaving us. We are going to do our very best to support you in this transition with separation payments, and where available, transitional health benefits and job placement support. The work you did here matters, and you will always be a part of Frontier’s story.
For those who are staying, I know change can be unsettling and I call on you to have kindness and empathy for our teammates who are leaving Frontier. Please say thank you as you say goodbye.
And as we move ahead, let’s take this opportunity to sharpen our focus on what matters as we drive our performance to the next level. I am confident that if we go through this tough time with integrity, we will emerge as a stronger and more competitive company.
