I can tell you from personal experience there's no way in h_ll HR is going to devote 20 minutes to canning an individual. Mine took 7 minutes. I was part of the first wave in late April. I was extremely fortunate to have a boss who respected me enough to give me a few hours advance notice to prepare myself. I was even told exactly how it would go down.

*Meeting w/ my boss (in person) plus HR and another member of leadership team (gotta have the extra witness) via Teams

  • Boss read from a script, HR read from their script, showed a couple slides detailing brief overview of severance package, separation assistance, key dates, and notice of documents I'd be receiving. Oh, HR threw in the names of two lower level HR managers who would be available for further assistance (hahahahahaha)

*"Any questions? Thank you for your contributions and please read all documents carefully and reach out if you have any questions." Leadership team member then gave a phony "if I can be of any assistance, you can always reach out."

Seven minutes. They've got it down to an art. But I bet the former MBBs out there are now touting that they are maximizing their efficiency by group eliminations via Teams. They're saving hours of their precious time, and it is undoubtedly easier on their mental health to kn_ck off 20, 30 or even 50 people at once than to have to take the time to think of them as individuals whose lives have just been turned upside down.

Those c h o d e s in HR tell everyone to turn off their cameras too. No, b i t c h, look people in the face when you fire them. Spineless cowards.

I got fired in a group teams invite a couple weeks back. I could hear one of my peers crying. Really set the mood for me to call out the HR schmuck’s lip service about finding an internal posting during a hiring freeze and he knew he was caught.

Come on guys HR has no time to do individual layoffs. Their time is too valuable to waste 20 minutes per person to read off the same script

So it was literally a group of people from different groups from different jobs all being told at once ?

Clarification--it was a RANDOM group of 3Mers in the TEAMS call who got the info at once to pack their bags. We didn't know them, they didn't know us.... How professional, right?

I agree 100%. This is ridiculous, and frankly embarassing that 3M would operate like this. Which group are/were you in?

Are you saying the entire group was laid off? Or only some people within the group, but non-impacted people were also in the meeting?
I was laid off some weeks ago and had a private meeting with HR and my manager.

Note to self: Do not accept an interview from 3M.

I’m so sorry. This is not how is should be done. Why can’t the set up a meeting and tell you alone like a humane company? I also have empathy for the person who had to deliver the message because he/she was probably drew the short straw.
