In prior layoffs at Micron you where low hanging fruit for the layoff if you had poor reviews, attendance problems or your managers didn't care for you. This time the cuts in many cases didn't happen to just the low hanging fruit and in some instances the low hanging fruit survived. They were safe as long as they are cheap fruit.
This time around there were cases where not even the M3 of the department had a say in the layoff selections.
If you are costing the company a lot of money in any way you should be looking elsewhere. You are at risk for the next round. If you are older, have high medical insurance costs, have large amounts of outstanding RSUs, or high top balances you should be concerned.
If you reain at Micron you should ask to see the severance agreement that was offered to the laid off workers. You desrve to know that it explicitly allows Micron to violate discrimination laws by preventing anyone that signs it from pursuing discrimination litigation.
You should ask why some departments had blatant age bias in the workers that were let go.
You should ask what criteria was used in the cases where the managers close to the workers had no say in the selections.
You should ask why workers that have averaged over a 3 in thier preformance rating where selected.
You should ask why workers that had been relocated by Micron in the last two years were cut. A corporate relocation is very expensive. Why would the company spent that money just to dispose of that worker.
Ask why workers that had been valued enough in the recent past to be sent on expat assignments where cut.
You will find that they will not answer any of your questions. Then you should ask yourself why won't they answer these questions? What do they have to hide? Why will they not share any data on the layoff?
You should read the Micron code of conduct then ask yourself if the executive team is living by the code that they hold you accountable to live by.
Remember, you are a disposable resource to Micron. Treat it like a job, not a career. Ask yourself how many people do you know that have been laid-off from Micron compared to how many you know that have gone into real retirement.
