Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Used to look forward to work at 3M

Does anyone feel like “it’s great to have a job” but damn this one sucks. Just a bunch of snakes and id--ts trying to be the ring master of this circus. Been here a while….never felt this way.

As someone who was hired within 6 months of SAP deployment, how did 3M purchase things from suppliers before this? I have always though SAP ordering was an overly complicated process, and as someone who doesn’t use it directly, I find it frustrating when there is an issue with an order and no one communicates it to me so I will be waiting several months for something that will never show up because the buyer in CR hasn't communicated with me because of some arbitrary issue

I've been at 3M 30 years and the combination of SAP and A3M have made the last 3 years the worst of my career. I'm no longer proud to be a 3Mer. Our reputation is not great. We have made doing business with 3M hard for our suppliers. The invoicing system in SAP is complex and many of them are not getting paid and then holding shipments. I don't blame them. The change to net 90 day payment terms is also poor business. We suck.

I would recommend leaving. I left over two years ago, and it truly was the best decision I have made career wise. I was in TTS/IT and 3M has been a sinking ship since SAP was brought in. All the money paid to Accenture had to come from somewhere (employee cuts, underinvestment in plants, R&D, etc). I really believe the billions spent on SAP sr3w3d 3M.

Yes, I do feel that way and think I can emphasize. Counting some time a CW I have been around for nearly 12 years. To be fair to 3M, 10 of those 12 have been wake up before the alarm clock good and that is why I am staying- out of a hope that we will find our footing and recapture the magic of what was such a great place for such a long time.

It is not as simple as 3M, love it or leave it. I suspect most have complicated feelings related to whether to say or go.
