Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Q1 Earnings Will Be Dismal

In spite of all the smoke and mirrors, Store sales have tanked. Hiring is basically non-existent, associate hours are being slashed, and customer traffic is mostly dead. If you’re FT get ready to be cut. If you’re PT you’ll be lucky to get 4 hours a week. THE PARTY IS OVER FOR MARV AND LITTLE JOE…

Get ready for more payroll cuts. Cashiers will most likely be cut as self checkout is the way of the future. Full timers will be trimmed as well.

It’s going to be a tough slog working in the stores for the rest of this year. Already I’m hearing of store managers/district managers being fired, and some even dumping their keys on the desk and walking out. The pressure is going to be cranked up and get ready to be micro-managed to the hilt. What makes it worse for Lowe’s than HD is Lowe’s relies more heavily on retail consumer spending, which has tanked. HD can at least tread water because they are more invested in the Pro space, which pretty much goes on even in a bad economy.

I’m glad I got out when I did.

As a former employee, Lowe’s is just a showroom to me. Many open boxes taped, no thank you. I look see what I like. Search the manufacturer and go to Amazon if it’s an appliance. I know the new delivery stinks. Best buy delivered a Fridge, the delivery was very thorough and careful. They asked me to give them a good review. Each review entered their drivers into a drawing for a $1k prize.

Lowe’s needs to take care of its employees.

I’ve been full-time for 14 years. My hours have never been cut. I’m now working 34 hours a week most of the hourly associates are also 34 hours a week and if we go one minute over they chase us out of the building. I have never seen my store, so empty There’s more associates than customers in the building this can’t go on for too long.

Of course the retail market is not as favorable now vs. Covid, but the key to exposing the incompetence of Melvin, Small Hands, and the Sears minions will be how Blowes woefully underperforms Home Depot during the coming quarters. If we had the right product on our shelves, adequate floor coverage (Depot added $1 billion to employee wages), and management that was capable of something more than uploading a picture to LinkedIn, we could hold our own in a weak market. But with this clown show, we are headed for 2 years of cuts, pressure, and general misery. Then, the Board will turnover and a new band of losers will take over.

I usually work late afternoon to early evening as a PT cashier.
Traffic has been very slow compared to the past couple of years.
No more free COVID money, plus folks are being much more cautious about spending with the way the overall economy has been.

Even our garden center is slow. There’s so much mulch stacked around the parking lot you can barely see the store dude.
