3M said it has terminated longtime executive Michael Vale, citing inappropriate personal conduct and violation of company policy.

Mr. Vale didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The manufacturer said Monday that Mr. Vale, who has worked at the company for more than 30 years and most recently served as group president and chief business and country officer, was terminated for cause, effective Friday.

3M said it took action upon verifying the violation of company policy. The company didn’t disclose what the violation was but said it was unrelated to 3M’s operations and financial performance.

Mr. Vale was elevated last month to his most recent position, which was a new role on the company’s corporate operations committee, reporting directly to Chief Executive Mike Roman. In that position, Mr. Vale was responsible for 3M’s Safety and Industrial, Transportation and Electronics, and Consumer business groups, along with country governance and emerging markets.

The company said it has initiated a search for Mr. Vale’s successor, and the unit leaders of the segments that Mr. Vale previously oversaw will now report directly to Mr. Roman.

Do as I say. Not as I do ! It was naive of me to actually believe in the Leadership Behaviors. Once McNerney and six sigma came in,it was the beginning of the end. Cut budgets to make quarters. Just like GE … so we hire another GE CFO for the final ki-l. MR or HR must have k own and swept much u see the carpet. The fire only survives if MR leaves.

Vale really didn’t bring any value to 3M, the shareholders, employees or customers. It was always about him and not about anyone else. Since his termination was unrelated to 3M’s operations and financial performance, other inappropriate behaviors or indulgences may have been involved and only time will tell.

What Vale did must have been pretty bad. I have been harassed, bullied, screamed at, criticized based on my nationality, excluded and more by my manager. This type of behavior is not allowed according to our Code of Conduct. Despite a complaint, HR did nothing. The fact they fired Vale is shocking to me.
