3M said it has terminated longtime executive Michael Vale, citing inappropriate personal conduct and violation of company policy.
Mr. Vale didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The manufacturer said Monday that Mr. Vale, who has worked at the company for more than 30 years and most recently served as group president and chief business and country officer, was terminated for cause, effective Friday.

3M said it took action upon verifying the violation of company policy. The company didn’t disclose what the violation was but said it was unrelated to 3M’s operations and financial performance.
Mr. Vale was elevated last month to his most recent position, which was a new role on the company’s corporate operations committee, reporting directly to Chief Executive Mike Roman. In that position, Mr. Vale was responsible for 3M’s Safety and Industrial, Transportation and Electronics, and Consumer business groups, along with country governance and emerging markets.
The company said it has initiated a search for Mr. Vale’s successor, and the unit leaders of the segments that Mr. Vale previously oversaw will now report directly to Mr. Roman.
