Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Beware if you get tagged as a '2'

It's mandatory every group has a 2. You could be a group of all 5's. But one of you HAS to be downgraded to a 2. If you get the tattoo... There's nothing you can do. It means Sandipity Deep and El "Raging Bull" Mohammed or whatever the F his name is are coming for you the next time Optum takes a seat in the barber chair for the haircut.

I was labeled a 2, and please, bring the axe as quickly as possible.

Sandeep wanted 10% to be 2s so he could ax them. Not because of actual performance but some number he came up with. It ended up being
5% but thinking next year will be even worse.

Explanations in writing is useful as it will provide you the opportunity to respond and not rely on vague verbal chit chat explanations as to why you got the ranking.

And if the Manager suddenly leaves or is removed there will be an email trail available for reference. There should be no surprises.

Having it in writing will also avoid bias as your Manager could have ranked you at the bottom as the rest were their close buddies. Transparency is important.

It should be reasonable to ask your Manager to provide your rating in an email with an explanation as to why you got that rating. And what you could do to improve your ranking.

how do you check your MAP rating?

Map 4 or 5 for more than a decade. No issues in 1 on 1s, was told everything was great. This year 2 out of nowhere. Boss claims he had no choice and it was forced changed. I was a 5 last year, nothing in my performance changed. 2023 review scrubbed from the system so I can no longer access it. Laid off last week. Completely cutoff for my last month. Uninvited from all meetings. Nothing in the system for potential redeployment unless I go back a grade level which is guaranteed to be a 10% pay cut just so they can get out of paying severance. We already were struggling to keep up with the work leadership was throwing at us, I feel bad for the guys left behind.

This is what happened to me. All one on ones throughout the yr went positive. Suddenly MAP rating 2 came from no where! Didn’t realize until i got a call from my VP for role elimination. Such a decent & sweet word for layoff!!

As a people manager, I can attest this is 100% true. Forced 2's.

I agree..while layoffs are bad , what’s worse is that you work with bigots like the poster!
