Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

WAKE UP

The cybersecurity breach at Western Digital is a glaring reminder that their priorities are misplaced. The lack of transparency, confusion over company direction, and disregard for legacy employees are inexcusable.

It's time to put employees first and get your act together.

Stop hiding crucial information from your workforce. Keep them informed and involved in decision-making processes. Your employees are the backbone of your company; treating them as expendable is a grave mistake one of which has already dealt damage (-41% since 2021).

Reassess your company's direction and ensure that everyone is on the same page. A clear vision is crucial for success in the rapidly evolving tech industry. Stop trying to be other companies. Be bold, be yourself.

Trust that the next wave of technological advances will not be kind to those who do not adapt.

Why don't you prioritize cybersecurity and invest in employee education. Maybe you could have done without the new logo and hired a security team dedicated to preventing and having a plan for something like this? Guessing you had one, but had to let them go. Without a strong foundation in security and a well-informed workforce, you're putting your reputation and user data privacy at risk. You're creating an environment where trust is the last thing on the public's mind.

Stop neglecting your employees.
Start focusing on what truly matters before it's too late.

All in all, it's been a stellar three years of head scratching decisions that have left us all wondering what's next.

Just how terrible can DG and his merry CSCO minions make WDC? What an incredible sh-t show! An amazing display of incompetence!

To show our appreciation for our employees' hard work, we suspended the 401K match and short-term incentives. Because who needs to feel appreciated to perform well?

Please explain what you mean by "mindset of older employees", related to the network incident. Obviously it's not a popular view but you must have some reason for suggesting it, right? Or are you just trolling older people who outwork younger workers?

@OP+1m5l1C3q you should post that on the internal site. They will find you and ask for a meeting w/ your manager and HR. It's quite fun, try it.

Exec focus has been on off-shoring and DEI nonsense, just like how Cisco was made irrelevant to everyone except the US Govt. Same exact script playing out at WD.

Transparency and engagement with employees? Nah, we prefer to keep them in the dark. It's not like they need to know what's going on in their own company.

From what I can tell, it is the mindset of older employees that caused the network security incident. I came from the networking world to WD and they remind of a company that also got hacked by China prior to filing for bankruptcy. WDC was a highly leveraged company financially and that had nothing to do with the current management. I won't be surprised if WD is acquired by another American semiconductor company as they are a critical supplier to the US government. It is quite possible this is why this hack happen.

I wish you were our CEO. Your comments get to the point to WD's biggest issue. For example, creating plan to attract and encourage senior employees to leave company earlier before RIF might save company $$$ but it also created an atmosphere that loyalty means nothing.
