Thread regarding Apple Inc. layoffs

Wonder how bad the tablet and smartphone numbers are if PC shipments are down by 40%

If Apple Mac shipments dropped more than 40% in the first three months of 2023, then I wonder how bad are the numbers for tablets and smartphones shipments? No one I know got themselves a new Apple tablet or smartphone recently. People must be saving to put food on the table instead or to paying for the heating/water/electricity/tuition/insurances/medical bill.

Developers use Macbooks, but since most of the development these days is for services running on Linux, it makes more sense to develop on a Linux machine. I would rather have a Linux laptop for work. Hopefully Linux laptops will become more accepted in companies, especially since desktop Linux is good now.

So, macbook shipments are now back to pre-pandemic levels? Sure ... LET'S ALL PANIC!!!

The pandemic created all kinds of weird incentives and temporary demand-side perturbations. The googles and facebooks bought up macbooks like candy, not to mention all the folks WFH.

" shipments of smartphones will decline 1.1% in 2023 to 1.19 billion units, down from the 2.8% growth in the prior forecast as market continues to suffer from weak demand and ongoing macroeconomic challenges. "
