And I'm asking specifically non-engineers.

OK if Vena isn't gone, then why wasn't his contract renewed? Why did Vena withdraw his candidacy for the CEO spot at the CN? So what's the actual thinking with this? He voluntarily leaves the UP after his two year tenure, gets a board position at FedEx, announces his candidacy for CEO at the CN thens withdraws from it? Obviously some people want to hold onto to the worst case scenario, but there's too many questions surrounding Vena and his decision to withdraw from the CEO spot. That can all be looked up very easily. The hedgefunds want him to be the next UP CEO, but he hasn't been heard from yet. I haven't heard anyone ask why he's been quiet about it. I think there's an interesting explanation behind why his contract wasn't renewed at the UP, and why he turned down the CEO spot at the CN. It's really not that hard to follow this one. Just look at the timing of when the RR's started getting grilled by the government entities. The point is that Vena is GONE! Vena was at the UP under contract. His contract wasn't renewed by the board, therefore he is not with the UP. Vena left the rail industry for a reason, and I think that very reason is why he's been quiet within the rail industry.
@3me, you are an id--t. Vena was never “locked out” of anywhere on the UP. In fact buddy boy, he probably will be your next CEO.
@JimVena got locked out of the glass house 2 years ago and then tried to get all the employees to rally and back him up like he was Donald Trump of UP and protest his termination. He is at Federal Express, buddy!!
@2ktw, Vena isn’t gone or locked out. In fact, if he isn’t the next CEO, he probably will still have a role in the company. Hopefully for all of us, he won’t be appointed CEO, but it’s a real possibility. The next CEO will be tasked to quickly reduce costs and elevate profits, so more cuts may happen. Vena is the architect of the cuts that happened here in the past few years.
I work on the coal line I know once vena gets in they’ll shut it down and have NP do all the work again
Day 1 on the job: "Save your money"
It's the railroad mantra.
- JOB
- Safe
Pick one...
Even Fritz wasn’t safe.
No job in the company, union or management is safe. We are all expendable assets to the company. As soon as they can operate without your particular position, you will be let go. The best advice if you aren’t actively looking for another job is to have a backup plan in case you are terminated. Example: If you don’t have higher education, go back to school; learn a trade if you don’t have a skill, get a certification or license like real estate or insurance, etc. These are just a few examples, I am not telling everyone to do these things. I am saying to have a fallback in case your number is called so you can pay your bills and provide for your families until you find a permanent solution. Corporate downsizing sucks!
My neighbor was laid off last Thursday. MOW.
Nobody’s jobs is safe. At one point it use to be a good place to work.
Electrician here, mine isn’t. Could be contracted out in a heartbeat. Just waiting for that day to come. My senior manager even labeled my job one day last year as “non-value added to our facility”.
I'll bet you'll get more responses if you ask the question of "who really cares about their job?"
And, of course, non-management.
